Daniela fiorentino / FRENCH GIRL
THE MOST BEAUTIFUL CLASSIC NEAPOLITAN SONGS ADAPTED IN FRENCH
arranged, directed and produced by Paolo Coletta
- ARTISTIC AND CULTURAL CONTENTS
« French Girl » is a musical project based on the translation, the adaptation and the interpretation of the most famous neapolitan classic songs into french. The beauty and the melody of the verses of neapolitan songs perfectly match the elegance and magnetism of french language, sometimes making the two basic elements indistinguishable. The main characteristics of the project are the internationality and the exchange between two different cultures. It’s not only a musical product but a brand new cultural experience, that, from two different universes with their own identity, comes to a very charming result. It’s a perfect marriage between the most harmonious melody and the sweetest of the language. The album tracks range from a breezy, jazzy mood to a more intimate one, passing through burlesque funny sensuality. Some atmospheres evoke exotic sceneries, some others bring us directly to the energy of music halls, some again appear as soundtracks of mystery, passion and love. The result is contemporarily resonant, and flutteringly alive. The Neapolitan spirit and poetry sits with the elegance of French language, producing an innovative outcome.
The protagonists of the projects are singer and actress Daniela Fiorentino and artistic producer Paolo Coletta, both strongly concerned with the idea of diffusion of the culture of their hometown, throughout the world, through with this album and its relative live concerts The verses of the neapolitan songs touch everybody’s heart; they are verses of passion, hope, abandonment in which everyone of us identifies and the beautiful and rich french language can skilfully express them in the francophone world.
“French Girl” is not an elitist and exclusive product but it’s meant for a wide audience of every age.

- INNOVATION OF THE ARTISTIC SUBJECT OF THE PROJECT
“French Girl” is an original, unique, one-of-a-kind project. So far the rare remakes of neapolitan songs (for example ““It’s now or never”/’O sole mio), not only have never concerned french language but also have never been realised as faithful adaptation to their sources. Practically only neapolitan people have enjoyed their musical and poetry tradition so far, while abroad, only the melody could be appreciated.
This musical experiment, then, encourages the appreciation of neapolitan culture by an international audience and exalts and promotes the best image of Napoli abroad.
INTERCULTURAL AND INTERNATIONALITY ASPECTS
“French Girl” aims at transcending the regional and national boundaries of the music, to make the classical neapolitan song, with its powerful expressive potential, protagonist in the world, once more and in a very innovative way.
- THE CONCERT
Witty, simple, malicious, joyful, “French girl” materialises on stage to bring the audience into her world made of freedom, irony, joy, mystery and a bit of extravagance. With no shadow zones. Every songs becomes a story, an adventure. Our icon explores and sings Napoli and the world through her perceptions. So, for example, “Ici la mer est claire” (Marechiaro), seems a noir scene with an exotic-dark taste, ironically expressed in a crime jazz key. “Funiculaire funiculaire” is represented as an amazing journey through the times, meeting famous historic characters, on board of the funicular. All the energy and life of the music hall is to be found in “La chanteuse”, where our protagonist in a broadway rock-musical style, after defying every preconception, declares she wants to be free and realised and cannot help talking about Napoli in her music.
“French Girl” has already obtained the moral support of General Consulate of France and of the prestigious French Institute “Grenoble” in Naples.
